2025 Summer Camp

Summer at a glance

Lifelong experiences, memories that never fade

Summer programs: Boys and Girls ages 7 to 16

Our largest and most popular program is the Resident Camp, which offers the campers a great variety of activities to participate in. This Program has adventures for all ages with emphasis on having a well-rounded and fun camp experience. For younger or first-time campers who just want a taste of Resident Camp, we offer half-week Mini-Camp sessions. A number of Day Trips are also available for campers who will be staying the week!

Along with the Resident Camp, we have Specialty Programs that focus on a particular activity. These run at the same time as the Resident Camp so the participants will have opportunities to enjoy activities in both.

Resident Camp

One to Nine Weeks * Boys and Girls * Ages 7 to 16

This camp is for the camper who wants to do it all! Four different types of programming in one. Boys and girls ages 7 to 16.

1. Skill Periods

Campers choose and focus on specific activities in order to learn and enjoy a new skill. Activities might include: canoeing, archery, swimming, sports, fishing, arts/crafts, nature, trailcrafts, kayak, windsurf, and more. Individual instruction designed to offer a learning experience and be fun at the same time.

2. All-camp activities

Group games, beach parties, cookouts, campfires, carnivals, dances, sing-a-longs, waterfront Olympics, and the list goes on. Plus, weekly special theme days filled with outrageously fun activities. Don’t miss days like Western Day, Neptune Day, Olympic Day, or this year’s 4th of July extravaganza that will kick off Session 3.

3. Sectional activities

Campers who live together choose activities to enjoy as a group. Here is the chance for small groups and their staff to have a great time together doing age appropriate activities.

4. Directed Free Time

All program areas are staffed and supervised for the campers to pick and choose as they please. They may want to spend the whole time at one activity or divide their time between several, it's their choice. Horse rides, sailing, fishing, swimming, sports, crafts, archery, canoeing, boating, and much more... a time to enjoy and just have fun!

"Stamper" Program

One to Nine Weeks * Boys and Girls * Ages 14 and up

Responsibility and Affordability

A great way for older campers to lengthen their stay while providing a little bit of service for Anokijig. Open to those individuals who are at least fourteen years of age. The Stamper position is a cross between camper and worker. Stampers are charged a reduced resident camp fee in exchange for performing kitchen or dining hall maintenance duties for portions of that week. Generally Stampers work one meal per day (approximately 2-3 hours) in the kitchen/dining hall doing dishes and clean-up. All Stampers can also be involved in regular camp activities with some limitations regarding Day Trip options. Other privileges may include stamper sectional activities. For those whom are interested in becoming a volunteer Jr. Staff in the future; Stamper is an opportunity to prove your abilities and dedication. Stampers can be more likely to make the transition to Junior Staff positions. Work your way to a great summer camp experience!

Specialty Camps 2024

Specialty Camp programs combine all the activities of Resident Camp with a focus on one particular activity for part of the day. These all have limited enrollment, so don’t wait too long!

Ranch

Grades 7 and up & Only available in “Traditional Program Style”

Participants will spend a portion of their day on our working ranch learning horse care and riding techniques. Each will be given their own horse to ride and care for under the close supervision of our staff. Lessons, ring work, trail rides, games and special events will fill your week. Riding lessons will take place “in the ring” and “on the trail” to help the camper learn the ways of a horse and develop confidence and riding skills. There is also ample time to enjoy all the other activities at Anokijig.

Circle-A Riders

Grades 4 through 6 & Only available in “Traditional Program Style”

This program is for younger campers who want to spend their time with our horses. Just as with the Ranch program, these campers will get to go on trail-rides, play games, and learn how to take care of these beautiful animals. Circle-A is held in the afternoons, so these campers will get to attend morning skill periods, too!

Adventure Challenge

Grades 8 and up & Only available in “Traditional Program Style”

Have you ever watched one of the dozens of Survivor-like shows on the air and said, “I could do that!” Now is your chance! “Barrel Boat Building”, “Human Foosball”, “Fire hose Lanyards”, and “4-Way Tug-O-War”, are just a few of the events that have thrilled Adventure Challenge Campers in the past. Any of these and more awaits your arrival. If you crave excitement, and are ready to be challenged both mentally and physically, you won’t be disappointed.
Plus, when not on a challenge, you can enjoy the activities of Resident Camp.

Fishing Expeditions

Grades 6s and up

This is an exciting program that will be filled with variety, adventure, and a fishing good time. We will learn to fly fish and then travel to a premier trout area where we always catch our dinner. We’ll night fish from a pontoon boat or in our private fishing hole looking for Northern, Bass, and Pan Fish. Experience using a variety of baits, both live and artificial while trying new techniques. We will fish from shore, docks, and boats. We’ll top off the week with a Lake Michigan Charter trip (weather permitting) to bring home the real big ones! If you like to fish or just want to learn, this will be the highlight of your summer. Come get hooked! Plus, when not wetting your line, you can enjoy the activities of Resident Camp.

Teen Leadership Program

Teen Leadership… from a summer at Anokijig to the rest of their lives… inspiring youth, making a difference, and having outrageous fun.

Teen Leadership is one of our most valued core programs. Commonly referred to as Junior Staff, this element of our mission promotes healthy adolescent development while providing valuable real-world experiences that encourage the participants to become responsible citizens willing to make a difference. To be accepted in this program teens must fill out an application and agree to a minimum commitment of three weeks; one week in Leadership Training and at least two weeks in Experiential Leadership Activities.

Program Goals:

  • Provide powerful, life-changing, leadership training for teens…class style and experiential.
  • Give teens the experiences needed to actively be a leader – training and supervision.
  • Give participants a meaningful assignment, including them as a vital part of the camp operation instead of just being an observer.
  • Have teens be accountable for their actions and choices, the same as an adult – with reviews, counseling, and praise for their efforts.
  • Help each young person discover that s/he has the potential to lead.
  • Unique to Anokijig is our philosophy to make this available to all teens by eliminating the typical fee restrictions usually associated.

Program Objectives:

  • Personal growth of participants – learning life-long skills such as a solid work ethic, positive attitude, teamwork, communication, self-determination, and leadership principles – qualities that will help build a foundation of valuable traits relative to a productive and successful adulthood.
  • Hone teens’ leadership skills through actual experiences, not just in the classroom.
  • Provide a learning environment that is nurturing; not autocratic.
  • Teens discover and are challenged to improve their character, values and ethics.

Information for parents

New friends, fun, adventure, and personal growth in a safe and caring environment will offer your child a positive experience that will last a lifetime.

Anokijig is accredited by the American Camp Association

This process requires member camps to comply with, and have an independent inspection, of over 300 safety, health facility, and program standards. Camp Anokijig has chosen to be a member of the American Camp Association to insure that we are providing the best and safest camping experience available today. Shortly after registration, parents will receive an information booklet to help prepare for camp. Please look this over and feel free to contact our office with any questions or requests.

Health & Safety

Our goal is to look upon all we do as if through the eyes of a parent. Each individual camper's well being is our primary concern. Camp Anokijig welcomes campers from all over the globe but does not offer interpreter or bilingual services. For the safety of campers, each child is expected to be fluent in conversational English. Our health supervisors are well equipped to provide care for most campers’ basic needs. However, if your child has unique challenges in regard to physical, mental, emotional, or social issues that might require more advanced or unique care beyond what most would consider “typical” please be sure to contact us to discuss our ability to provide appropriate care for you child’s needs.  All campers take a swim test to insure their safety on the waterfront. We strongly encourage non-swimmers to participate in our swim lessons.
